2021 Cost-of-Living Adjustments

December 31, 2020

Effective January 2021, a 0.78 per cent increase will be applied to the base pension amount for pensioners of the Local Authorities Pension Plan, Public Service Pension Plan, and Management Employees Pension Plan. Members who retired during 2020 will receive a prorated portion of this increase. Those who retired in, or prior to, 2019 will receive a full COLA.

The Special Forces Pension Plan (SFPP) follows a different Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) framework. The 0.78 per cent increase on base pension applies to pensionable service up to December 31, 2000. For pensionable service after December 31, 2000, a one-time increase of 0.39 per cent on base pension will apply.

SFPP members who retired during 2020 (between January 1, 2020, and November 30, 2020) will receive a prorated portion of this increase. Those who retired in, or prior to, 2019 will receive a full COLA.

Pensioners of the Provincial Judges and Masters in Chambers Pension Plan who terminated before April 1, 2009, will receive COLA at a rate of 0.78 per cent. Pensioners who terminated after 2009 will receive COLA at a rate of 1.30 per cent.
