LAPP - Multiple Positions with the Same Employer May be Pensionable
Edmonton, August 8, 2011 - If you work multiple positions with the same Local Authorities Pension Plan (LAPP) employer, it is up to your employer's LAPP participation policy to determine if you are eligible to participate in LAPP. Effective September 1, 2011, employers will be required to combine the regularly scheduled hours of employees working multiple positions within the same organization to determine pension eligibility.
This change only affects employees working multiple positions for the same LAPP employer.
To qualify, you must:
- work an aggregate of no less than 14 regularly scheduled hours per week* or 728 regularly scheduled hours per year in one or more multiple positions (both continuous and non-continuous hours are eligible);
*Note: Previously, an employee working less than 30 non-continuous hours per week was not eligible to participate.
- work all hours with the same LAPP employer; and
- be employed on a regularly scheduled basis (not a casual basis).
Participation is mandatory if you work in one or more continuous positions where the total aggregated regularly scheduled hours of work are at least 30 per week.
