Judges Pension Plan

The Provincial Judges and Applications Judges (Registered) Pension Plan (Judges Registered Pension Plan) and the Provincial Judges and Applications Judges (Unregistered) Pension Plan (Judges Unregistered Pension Plan) are, in combination, referred to as the "Judges Pension Plan."

The Judges Pension Plan was established in 2001 with provisions retroactive to April 1, 1998.

  • The Judges Registered Pension Plan provides benefits up to certain maximums allowed for registered pension plans under the Income Tax Act and its regulations.
  • The Judges Unregistered Pension Plan provides benefits in excess of those maximums.

The Judges Pension Plan replaced the Provincial Judges and Masters in Chambers Pension Plan which was established on September 1, 1988. Prior to that date, Judges were contributing members of the Public Service Management Pension Plan.

The Judges Pension Plan is administered by Alberta Pensions Services Corporation (APS).

More information about this plan can be found on the Judges website.
